PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

My philosophy of education is based upon the fact that learning is a life long process that continually changes as the world around us changes.  This philosophy has taught me that a good teacher must teach the children HOW to learn as well as what to learn.  All good teachers in our society must be interactive and be able to use technology to enhance the learning process.  My middle school science classes consist of mostly hands-on experiences that engage the students to become active learners where they can develop self growth and independence in decision making and problem solving.  It also consists of the application of science topics to real life situations along with the awareness of the science world that exists around them.  This type of teaching requires enthusiasm to make it a positive experience.  With it I make it my responsibility to stimulate others to higher and higher levels of achievement.  I have found much success in the responses of the students to this type of learning environment.  Providing opportunities to learn ideas is such a way that makes the students interested is essential to my teaching middle school science.

ATHLETIC PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy of athletics in high school is similar to my philosophy of education in that I believe that a good coach is one that provides opportunities for growth and development for all athletes.  It's a perspective that attempts to make the participants feel needed and worthy for the success of the team.  My athletic foundation is based upon the idea that, in the words of Franklin Roosevelt, "People acting together as a group can accomplish things which no individual acting alone could ever hope to bring about."  I make it my responsibility to teach and develop the skills necessary for success as a team.  Most of all, I enjoy guiding young people on a personal level by showing that I have integrity and honesty as a leader.  I enjoy making them feel like they are a part of the success by encouraging them in a positive and enthusiastic manner.  This in turn aids in having them become productive in all parts of life.  I make it a priority that I be a positive role model for them to follow.  For being a positive role model is a powerful form of educating.
